About The Program

During this fun and engaging program, we’ll read Riley’s Remarkable Roller Coaster Ride and introduce students to the Roller Coaster Breath, a simple mindfulness technique to help them manage stress, boost self-esteem, and find calm in their daily lives. Through a fun cheer, handshake, and Magic Scavenger Hunt, students will explore what makes up their own special inner magic and learn to see and celebrate the everyday magic that’s all around them.

Get ready for your students to start seeing the world in a whole new way!

Unlocking Your Magic Programs have also been led at libraries, YMCA's, nature centers, yoga studios, and dance studios—please reach out for further details/pricing for these special events.

Author Visit Information:

Emily Capuria, the author of Riley’s Remarkable Roller Coaster Ride, shares a few key insights during her talks and assemblies.

  1. The Roller Coaster Breath: A Mindfulness Tool
In a world full of distractions, it’s important for kids to know how to calm their minds and reconnect with themselves. Using the Roller Coaster Breath, a fun and simple technique that combines deep breathing, visualization, and a body scan, students will learn how to reset, refocus, and feel more in control anytime they need it.

  2. Riding Life’s Ups & Downs
Life is full of twists and turns—whether it's friendship challenges, school stress, or big feelings at home. The Unlocking Your Magic program helps kids see that their magic is always inside them. When they learn to stay connected to themselves, they can handle anything that comes their way with confidence and ease.

  3. Finding the Magic
Everyone has their own special inner magic, made up of three unique ingredients. We’ll talk about what those ingredients are, customize a "you are magic" poster, and then use the fun, and interactive cheer, and handshake to celebrate what makes them special while also discovering the magic all around them—because someone else’s magic doesn’t take away from ours, it just brings more magic into the world!

The program includes an introduction, a breathing practice, a book reading, an engaging conversation about the three magic ingredients, and a 24" x 48" customized "you are magic" poster to remind students of what makes them and your school so magical, a special magic handshake, and a magic scavenger hunt and bookmark for students to take home!

Illustrator Visit Information:

Elizabeth Stryker, the illustrator of Riley’s Remarkable Roller Coaster Ride, shares a few key insights during her talks and assemblies.

  1. Body Mindfulness:
We’re never too young to start paying attention to what our bodies are telling us! The magical roller coaster breathing practice that we learn with Riley helps us settle and tune into the messages our bodies are giving us.

  2. Artistic Inspiration:
The illustrations in Riley are intentionally simple, aiming to inspire children to embrace their creativity and explore their favorite art forms. After the presentations, I’ve received multiple original illustrated books from kids. One even included a "how-to" guide on drawing the characters!

  3. Finding the Magic:
Every person is special and unique—they have their own special magic inside them. The goal is to recognize this magic in ourselves and in those around us. I highlight this by walking the children through how to draw a character from the book, emphasizing that each drawing is different, just like each of us!

The talk includes an introduction, a breathing practice, a book

reading, a "how-to" drawing session, a special magic handshake, and a magic scavenger hunt to inspire reflection.
